BLOG: Discovering Your Niche

The dictionary definition of a niche is a "specialized segment of the market for a particular kind of product or service". A niche market can be the key to a successful small business.  By focusing your business and marketing effort in this area, you will differentiate yourself and stand out among the crowd.

6 Steps to Discover Your Niche

Step 1--What are your interests and passions?

Step 2--What challenges do your ‘Right-Fit Clients’ (RFC) face?

Step 3—What solutions (services/products) do you offer your RFC?

Step 4--Research and analyze competition

  • How are others addressing the needs of your RFC?
  • Research website, social media, reviews, print materials, and advertising of other service providers.

Step 5—Define your ‘Competitive Edge’.

  • How do your solutions differ from other service providers?
  • Differentiate your product or service so your RFC chooses you!

Step 6—Test…More Research

  • Is your niche viable?
  • Strategies: survey your target market, offer a free gift (lead magnet), educate and inform

It is vitally important to have a well-defined niche market when planning your marketing strategy. The most common misconception about marketing is that "if you build it, they will come". The reality is: find your niche market, and offer a service that your RFC needs.  When you try to sell to everyone, you run the risk of selling to no one.
